Frequently
Asked Questions

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?
Registered Dietitian (RD) is a regulated title, whereas nutritionist is not regulated by any credentialing body. Registered Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals that are bound by the law and an ethical code. RDs are also required to complete extensive educational requirements that are approved by the Accredited Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). A nutritionist does not have to complete any formal degree requirements. Many people call them self a nutritionist whether or not they have any training or credentials. RDs provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to people with certain health conditions. It is illegal for nutritionists to provide MNT.
